Readers' comments:
- "... Bordertown Wanderer has a better overall pacing. It seems Gu Long put a lot of thought into this particular story, especially considering that he wrote this as a prequel after having already written the other Ye Kai/Fu HongXue stories." - TigerWong, spcnet.tv/forums .
- "Wow ... this is great! [It] is very 'Gu Long-ish', almost like a mystery/detective story. Seriously hooked, I read 21 chapters in one go. The translation is very polished too." - chowbeng, spcnet.tv/forums.

More Readers' Comments
- "... this is a WONDERFUL novel ... I'm truly addicted to it. I'm enjoying it as much as [Sentimental Swordsman, Ruthless Sword] or even more. The way Gu Long writes these two novels is so clever and deep (well, in all his novels, [he writes] like this, but in these two, he seems to surpass himself). Ye Kai is such a Guy.... [as] interesting as Li Tan Huan.... " - Felipe, spcnet.tv/forums.
- " Call me twisted, but I like the weird plot events going on in this one. Maybe it is just because the story as a whole is so layered in lies and plots. It isn't one character acting wierd -- everyone is messed up. Seriously messed up. And it has great characters..." - Anatman, spcnet.tv/forums.
- " I can't believe that even though Gu Long rarely places an emphasis on romance or ruins the romance somehow, I always enjoy reading his stories. Must be the addicting dialogue..." - patricia n, spcnet.tv/forums.
Chapter 20 - A Drunken Haze To Solve A Thousand Worries
"The two of them have been in hiding for many years now and figured that no one would know of their whereabouts," Ye Kai said.
"I doubt anyone really did know of their whereabouts," Third Madame Shen said.
"But just today I had mentioned casually that the two of them might be nearby," Ye Kai said.
"How did you know?" Third Madame Shen asked.
"I know a lot of things," Ye Kai said with a slight chuckle.
Chapter 21 - The Sword Without A Sheath
His body lay quietly in the coffin, missing was the greasy apron that he always had on. This boss who had slaved away half of his life had finally been laid to rest.
But Ye Kai had just seen him in town, that greasy apron was still hanging in front of his body. How did he end up in this coffin?
The stranger thing is that Chen DaGuan, Ding LaoSi, Boss Song, and several others who own shops on that street were also inside of the coffins. They had just been in town, how did they all suddenly end up inside of these coffins?
When did they die?
Chapter 22 - Prelude and Postlude To A Murder
Chen DaGuan let out a sigh and said, "You really have nothing to do with this situation whatsoever."
Ye Kai nodded his head, "I know, your end goal is getting rid of Fu HongXue."
Chen DaGuan nodded as well, "He really deserves to die."
"Why?"
Chapter 23 - Little Bells Ring *Ding Dang*
The girl clapped and said, "Great! You're definitely going to have a bright future."
"Just like that friend of yours?"
"Exactly!" She bent down and hugged the little child. The child's face blushed red as he walked off.
Along the way, he couldn't help but turn to ask, "What is the name of your friend, who worked so hard to better himself?"
"Why do you want to know?"
"Because I want to be just like him. I want to keep his name in my heart so I never forget."
Chapter 24 - Grand Flag Waving In The Setting Sun
Ding LingLin seemed very amused and replied, "Are you preparing to kill my three brothers?"
"You only have three brothers, correct?"
Ding LingLin let out a sigh and said, "This isn't good."
"What?" Lu XiaoJia said.
"None of them are here right now, of course it isn't good."
"And if they were?" Lu XiaoJia asked.
"If any one of them were here, you'd be a corpse by now." Ding LingLin replied.
Chapter 25 - One Sword Shakes All Four Directions
Fu HongXue's expression was still pale and cold as ice. Under the blazing sun, there still wasn't a single drop of sweat on his head.
"Even I thought that their plan was pretty good. But they misjudged one thing."
Fu HongXue couldn't help but ask, "What?"
Chapter 26 - Blood Debt As Deep As The Sea
"That's why the two of you hired him."
"But we weren't able to buy you off. I was quite surprised when you told Ma KongQun about what had transpired. The price that I had to pay wasn't little." Xiao BieLi said.
"That price really was enough to buy off a lot of people. Pity that all those people are dead now."
"There is nothing to be pitied about their deaths."
"The only pity is that Fu HongXue is still alive right?"
