More Readers' Comments

  • "So very Gu Long. Character A is world famous and feared through the martial arts world, B appears and skewers A in 1/2 a stroke, C appears to behead B in 1/4 stroke and D smacks C into next week." - CC, spcnet.tv/forums.
  • "So many twists and turns, also mysterious characters!" - Eliza Bennet, spcnet.tv/forums.
  • "This one reminds me a lot of The Sword and the Exquisiteness. Same style, similar plot... But in a lot of ways, I actually like Ma Rulong better. I know that probably sounds weird. But he is a very "good" person, even if he very arrogant, and often an idiot. And one of the things I like about GL's characters is that they are often very "not perfect". He is definitely not the most dangerous guy around, but frankly, I like characters that are interesting, rather than just powerful. If you had the most powerful protagonist in the world, it's really hard to make things to threaten them. Everyone just ends up being overpowered..." - Anatman, spcnet.tv/forums.

Prologue

The story we are going to tell now is the story of 'the jasper stone.'
What was this jasper stone? Was it a person? A type of weapon? A treasure? Or some kind of a mysterious medicine?

Chapter 1 - Four Young Masters

The man who wanted to drink arrived. After the snow had stopped, it was even colder than before. They were wearing fur garments, and it was still cold. This person was actually wearing a thin gown, and even though the material was good, it was not the type of clothes to wear in this kind of weather. So he was trembling. But even when it was freezing cold like this, to everyone's surprise he had a folding fan in his hand.

Chapter 2 - The Murderers

Standing side by side outside the valley and blocking his way were three people -- one looked huge and powerful; another was extremely fat; and the third was a monk.

Chapter 3 - Sky Assassin

But this piece of jade actually wanted Ma Rulong's life. Because it was tied with a silk cord. The other end of that silk cord was attached to a gold medal. On one side of that gold medal was a horse. On the other side of that medal were four characters!
"Celestial Horse Galloping Sky"
This was the Hall of Celestial Horse's command emblem. And Ma Rulong was the hall leader's son.
How could the Hall of Celestial Horse's command emblem be found on this assassin's body?

Chapter 4 - Long Night

Ma Rulong stared at his saber, waiting for it to move. Who could have imagined that Peng Tianba would resheathe his saber and put both of his hands over the fire. He knew that Ma Rulong couldn't run away, and so he took his time warming up his hands. This old Jianghu master's calm demeanor commanded admiration from people.

Chapter 5 - A Girl Named Dawan

Surprisingly, she really left. She put on Ma Rulong's fox fur coat, climbed on Ma Rulong's white horse, and left. The fire had already burnt itself out. She didn't add any more firewood for him either. What the girl did was really merciless, 100 times more merciless than what the merciless monk would ever do.

Chapter 6 - Broken Bowl

Someone was cooking in the kitchen. When one was frying something, his posture usually wasn't elegant. But this person was an exception. He had a spatula his hand but he looked like Wu Daozi -- the greatest painter of all time -- holding a paintbrush, or Ximen Chuixue -- the unique and renowned swordman -- holding his sword. Not only were his posture and movement exquisite, he was totally absorbed in his cooking.

Chapter 7 - A Girl Named Xiaowan

Ma Rulong kept his mouth shut. He didn't know where Qiu Fengcheng was either. At the time Peng Tianba, Feng Chaofan, and the merciless monk were pursuing him, Qiu Fengcheng certainly wasn't with them.
Although he didn't die from Jin Zhenlin's spear, his injury was surely not light. Where could a severely wounded man have gone to?

Chapter 8 - An Affair

Then she asked, "Did you see that Xiaowan?"
"Hmm."
"How was it?"
"How was what?"
"How did she look?"
"She looked very good."
Dawan giggled, "Since she looked very good, how come you look like you just saw a ghost?"
With a sigh Ma Rulong replied, "If I'd seen a ghost, it would've been much better."
"What did you see?" Dawan asked.

Chapter 9 - Adversity and True Hearts

Powerful enemies were already here to kill them, and life or death would be decided in just a short moment. Surprisingly, she was very happy. This was because Ma Rulong didn't drop her and run away. Regardless of what she'd said, what she was feeling in her heart right now seemed to be more important than life and death.
Ma Rulong suddenly felt her rising happiness. That pair of swollen eyes seemed to become quite adorable. Beauty and ugliness actually were not cleanly separated. A happy person was actually a lovely person.
Dawan softly asked, "Are you afraid?"

Chapter 10 - Questions

Xiaowan smiled charmingly, her eyes filled with love. She said, "I'd rather you strangle me to death."
"Really?"
"Of course, really."
"Good." Qiu Fengcheng smiled, kneading her neck with his hand.
He gently said, "Then I'll really strangle you to death."

Chapter 11 - Hanging Punishment

Monk Chiku said nothing and shut his eyes. The merciless monk became even more anxious.
If Monk Chiku couldn't figure out what poison Qiu Fengcheng had drunk, certainly there was no one else in the world who would know. Fortunately, Monk Chiku finally spoke.
"There is no poison in the wine jug."
"Where is the poison then?"

Chapter 12 - Jasmine

When great masters battled, not only did they keep their minds calm, they had to control their tempers. Otherwise, they would be vulnerable to an attack. The merciless monk had understood this principle all along.
But at the moment his anger had already surfaced, his eyes filled with blood lust, his forehead streaked with blue veins. Both of his hands were stretched out like eagle claws.
He moved toward Ma Rulong, step by step.

Chapter 13 - The Flower Girl

Ma Rulong did not but he could already feel the unspeakable ghostly air of the place.
"This is a morgue," said Dawan blithely. "If someone got murdered in this county, their bodies must be brought here for an autopsy."
Ma Rulong hadn't seen a corpse, nor smelt the foul stench of blood, but he was already uncomfortable in his stomach. At a place like this, nobody could possibly feel at ease. Why did Dawan bring him here?

Chapter 14 - No Mercy

The old lady let out a laugh, a big laugh. She said, "I like you. I really like you. Even if you hadn't dressed my hair, I think I'd still have done this for you."
Who was this old lady? What did Yu Five want her to do? As Ma Rulong's curiousity was piqued, Dawan actually dragged him outside.
